This ancient practice has been used by many cultures including: Mayan, Korean, Ancient Egyptian, Mexican and many more.
When this practice is done with intention it is a beautiful way to connect with the feminine crown and base chakra.
From a physical stand point, the process of Yoni, aka Vaginal steaming, the use of the medicinal herbs can bring great healing to the womb and reproductive organs including improved circulation to the womb, bringing warmth, life-force and increasing blood flow to heal any blood stagnation or dis-ease as well as providing a soothing and nourishing, anti-inflammatory healing to the Endometrial lining, restoring the PH balance of the Vagina, and supporting the healing of the uterus, associated with conditions such as Endometriosis, PCOS, Fibroids, Adenomyosis, polyps and infections.
Energetically, emotionally and spiritually Yoni steaming nourishes the emotionally cleansing and purifying for the womb, helping us to reconnect with our soft feminine energy. WHEN NOT TO STEAM – CONTRAINDICATIONS
- It is important to never use essential oils in your yoni steam as they are to strong and concentrated to have arising on the steam and contacting the delicate flesh on your yoni.
- If you have a short cycle (less than 27 days) you need to use mild herbs found in the Balanced Babes Wellness Blend and only steam for 10-15 mins at a time.
- Never steam during spotting or bleeding
- Do not steam if you are pregnant
- Do not steam if you have opens sores

OUR FAVOURITE HERBS TO USE IN A STEAM:
- Yarrow herb – blood purifying, pelvic tonic
- Holy Basil (Tulsi) herb – menstrual balm and tonic

- Mugwort herb – Womb cleanser and awakened
- Raspberry leaf – nurturing and protective

Modify a chair to use for the ritual by cutting a hole (at least 10 inches in diameter) in the center, or using a metal/wicker garden chair that steam can rise through, or create a platform with a gap in the middle so you can receive the steam whilst squatting (e.g with raised wood to stand on – test that its secure!) Make sure your Yoni is at least 12 inches from the bowl.
FINDING THE PERFECT SACRED STOOL
You can also easily make your own by preparing your herbs in a pot and then standing over it legs wide open with a blanket wrapped around you to hold in the warmth and steam. A milk crate, camping toilet bucket or to simple squat are great starting out options which are cost effective while you explore the process.
This is a very important part of the process and connecting with you womb. Create a sacred space, which you feel relaxed and open in; this can involve calling in objects which are special to you, music, lighting, candles, smells etc The entire process should be aesthetically pleasing.
Add 2 heaped tablespoons of your Balanced Babes Wellness Yoni Steam blend, you may like to boil these for a few minutes on the stove top, although simply adding boiled water from the kettle and allowing these to steep for a few minutes is fine also. into a large pot of boiling water; cover with a lid and simmer for 5 minutes.
Place the glass or ceramic bowl with your herbs directly under the hole of your Yoni steam chair – and steam yourself for 15-20 minutes.
Steam for no longer than 10 minutes if your womb cycle is under 27 days, so to not overstimulate the womb.
Incorporate your own practice while you steam, this could be meditating, journaling, listening to music, what ever you are called to follow in that moment.
